Deborah Bard is the full-time Cantor for Temple Beth El. Among her many accomplishments, Cantor Bard serves as Cantor Emeritas of the historic K.A.M. Isaiah Congregation in Chicago. She has a history of service to many Jewish communities.
Recently, she was the visiting cantor of Anshe Congregation in Olympia Fields, Illinois. Cantor Bard holds a B.A. in Humanities from University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Sacred Music from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, where she received investiture in 1985. She also did graduate work in Voice and Music Performance at the Manhattan School of Music, and in Creative Arts Education at New York University. She is a member of the American Society for Jewish Music, and the National Council of Jewish Women. She holds an honorary Doctorate in Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Cantor Bard served on the Executive board of the American Conference of Cantors, on the Board of the URL Commission on Synagogue Music, and the Hyde Park Kenwood Interfaith Council.
Cantor Bard believes that music has the singular power to uplift the soul, to inspire prayer, and to direct us to the sacred. Once you hear her sparkling, exuberant voice, you will believe those words.
